About Umuhoza Project
In 1994, over 1 million Tutsis lost their lives in the Rwandan genocide. While the nation is rebuilding, the legacy of these events continues to affect survivors deeply. Compelled by God to support their emotional healing, I launched the Umuhoza Project, which means “comforter,” to journey with survivors toward wholeness using my counselling skills.
Every April, Rwanda observes a time of mourning for the genocide, which, while fostering remembrance and forgiveness, often re-traumatizes those still grappling with the effects of trauma. The Umuhoza Project seeks to bring hope during this period by offering comfort to survivors, training counsellors and pastors to support the broken, and mentoring young people to embrace their potential and lead with purpose.
